This year was the first time that I’ve had a camera capable of taking proper photos of the beautiful Fall Colors in Colorado. It’s what I had been looking forward to for the prior 10 months that I’ve had my camera. So I convinced my friend Scott (another photo enthusiast) to take a trip with me around Southern Colorado.
We started by heading South from Denver towards La Veta, CO (which is just west of Walsenburg) in hopes of getting some sunsets shots of the Spanish Peaks. Unfortunately, a couple delays made us miss the sunset. However, we still stopped at our target location along Highway 160 to get some long exposure shots. My favorite shot from that location can be found in the night photography gallery, in which I was fortunate enough to capture lightning strikes in a storm approaching the Spanish Peaks. When we finished there, we continued on and finally stopped in Alamosa for the night.
On day 2, we started by heading to nearby Sand Dunes National Park. It has been probably 20 years since I have been there. What an amazing place. I love the views of the dunes with the classic Colorado mountains in the background, such a cool combination. I hope to post some pics from that location in future posts.
After a few hours there, we stopped back in Alamosa for lunch at the San Luis Valley Brewing Company for lunch before continuing West.
Our next stop was at the top of Wolf Creek Pass, where I captured the following panorama of the valley ahead.
More to come in future posts…..
